I realize this video may give the prosecution everything they need to convict me and send me away for the rest of my life… but I hear that confession is good for the soul.
If only there was a way to change the past.
The day we shot the promo for Jessica’s Birthday Sale at Shootsac we came came back to her place to wrap up… and decided to eat the little cake she used in some photos as well. The cake was good… and although small… was way more than enough for the three of us. In fact, we [...]
After recently “topping off” the construction site for the $548 million, 460,000 square foot New Hospital Building… the giant crane used during construction was disassembled and trucked away this weekend. The building is set to open in 2010 and has been under construction for about 3 years already.
Lan and I were asked to come to [...]
Most of the people who know me probably also know Paul Dateh. Most people who know me also know that I am gifted with musical talent. Er… yeah. Talent.
Paul Dateh, on the other hand, is blessed with ACTUAL musical talent. That’s why one of his You Tube videos has had over a million [...]
Na was my favorite fruit during my stay in Vietnam in 2006. Friggin’ delicious. If only I could have some Na during the next two months, veganism wouldn’t seem so daunting.
Lan, Bonny, Paul Dateh and I went to see Battlestar Gallactica Razor last night… and while waiting Paul and I walked over to the New Zealand Naturals ice cream store, where they take regular ice cream and put it through a machine that sorta turns it into soft-serve.
I have a bunch of video from my Vietnam trip in 2006 that I have still not gotten through, but here is the first of what will end up being maybe 12 or so videos. Here’s how they eat avocado in Vietnam… or at least one of the ways. Avocado is so cheap in the area [...]
This is a song, by Bui Sauce, to everyone in the world except the 15 people who watched us film Noodle Scar live… which includes everyone we know except Rox and Shane.Noodle Scar
Pixelodeon was an awesome event held by some very cool people at the American Film Institute in Hollywood. about page. (it’s actually the one posted above) It was basically a place to showcase a wide variety of videos to be found online from of an amazingly diverse array of content producers… and more than that [...]
Lan, Bonny and I took a trip down to Chick-fil-A, dressed like cows… to get us some chicken.
This is a parody of “When Jamie Smiles” from the movie Just Friends. In order to change from Jamie to Kate I had to play the verses myself but used the original chorus, even though the transitions end up weird. It was made specifically for Kate, and honestly only she will get it, as [...]
This is a promo video by Bonny and The Bui Brothers for Vlog Deathmatch, which Bonny is a contestant of. Watch the videos, vote for the best.
Lan and I have entered into a challenge, a “deathmatch”, if you will… and we need your help. Please visit Vlog Deathmatch for details.
The Bui Brothers are preparing to unleash upon the world a new vlog… unlike any you have seen. Or maybe it’s somewhat like some you have seen, but different in certain ways. What ways, you ask? I guess you will have to wait and see! And don’t be disappointed if it’s [...]
I’ve now learned that when I quit a job the best thing to do is to just cease showing up. Giving 2 weeks of notice only allows them to plot against you. I can’t believe I thought what they did for my birthday was bad.
Bonny reports from Santiago Canyon Road at Irvine Lake on the fire that has thus far consumed 6,500 acres in the Cleveland National Forest and caused the evacuations of 2,100 homes.
This is a new vlog, brought to you by the Bui Brothers and Bonny Pierzina. Check it out at www.noodlescar.com
Lan and I had a little editing “competition”, using the same footage that we shot 2 days ago. This is my video, and you can find his here. They came out surprisingly different, and are definitely best experienced with headphones or in a quiet room.
Music: Green Hornet - Al Hirt
Now, an editing workstation worthy of my Mighty Mac Mini. And next to it, you can see my old PC workstation, because as much as I enjoy using Macs, it’s just not possible to get rid of my PC!
A high school friend contacted me after 10 years and shared some old videos we made for school… apparently I used to be skinny and funny and dumb. Nice…
So far the feedback on my little vlog has been great. The videoblogging group is awesome. Since I’ve gotten a few requests for it, here is an “intro video”, or as close to one as I could make…
I still haven’t finished the editing for the video for work… because I haven’t been working on it. I got all into vlogging and that’s pretty much all I spend my time on now, viewing vlogs. It’s quite addicting. I have, however, finished a smaller project that will be sent around the world… literally. I [...]

I’m not very happy with this video, but I’m posting it because I promised myself I would make the best of the disappointingly shaky, dull and incomplete footage I returned from the festival with. I obviously have a lot of practice ahead of me both in shooting and editing, but that’s half the [...]
After recently “topping off” the construction site for the $548 million, 460,000 square foot New Hospital Building… the giant crane used during construction was disassembled and trucked away this weekend. The building is set to open in 2010 and has been under construction for about 3 years already.
Lan and I were asked to come to the construction site to take photos and shoot some video while the crane was disassembled. After recent crane tragedies and scandals, it was great to see that this one was safely disassembled and transported away without a hitch. We shot the video in time lapse… my favorite part is when the clouds roll through towards the end… I think we might see more time lapse videos from The Bui Brothers… coming soon in HD.
It really was quite a sight to behold… especially from the awesome vantage point atop an adjacent CHLA building… from the helipad.

We actually learned a few things about the crane and its operation… some things we were curious about (nope, there’s no restroom, just a bucket!)… and some things we hadn’t even thought to ask (the crane is built where an elevator shaft will be… so it is able to work from the middle of the building then be removed without affecting what can be built since the elevator won’t even be put in for 6 months or more).
See Lan’s blog for some shots from the day… when he posts them.

Awesome. I want to an overnight time lapse out of my window, I’m on the 21st floor. I’m afraid it may only be cloud movement. But I want to do some interesting things with time lapse but I want it to be different and something unique if possible.

That’s so cool. Did you guys get to wear the cool hats and harness? Now that was special!
June 22nd, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Unfortunately (or fortunately, since it was sooooo hot!) we didn’t get to wear the hardhats or harnesses… we were escorted up to the top of the adjacent building and that’s the only access we had. It would have been great to get into the construction site… maybe next time!

What a fascinating minute! It’s comforting that people know what they’re doing and do it well. I am also impressed with the smoglessness (for LA) of the day you recorded. Awesome!

Look great guys.
How did you capture the TL footage? Did you shoot a butt load of video and speed it up, or did you use stills? If you used stills did you shoot them manually or with an intervalometer? Was it pretty easy to set up?
cheers

Actually, Adam, we used a Sony VX2100 camcorder which has a built in time lapse feature. I had it capture 0.5 seconds of footage for every 30 seconds… it ended up shooting a little more than a minute per hour. Then we sped it up considerably to get the final 1:20 or so, made some music in Garage Band, and voila!
The next project will be shot with a DSLR and an intervalometer… and will be distributed in HD.

Awesome!! So was that another crane that was helping tear down that crane? And my question would be, who tears THAT one??? Does it ever end? LOL!

[...] The $548 million, seven-floor, 460,000-square-foot building (that will be the new hospital building at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles) used a giant crane to help build it. Vu and I were asked to photograph and video the disassembly of the crane. (see the time lapse video on Vu’s blog) [...]

Happy Birthday to you!!! Hope you had a great one!
June 30th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
Thanks for the details. The next project sounds great. I saw a great presentation by Jim Tierny of Digital Anarchy at an MGLA meeting a while back where he did some incredible time lapse photography using a DSLR and an intervalometer. Not sure which model he used but if I recall it was about $180 from B&H
Be interesting to hear what you end up using and how it all turns out. I’m standing by :)
cheers

You guys continue to amaze, impress, and inspire me. And you created the music too?!? You’re WAY too talented.
Miss hanging with you!
