Thanks for the details. The next project sounds great. I saw a great presentation by Jim Tierny of Digital Anarchy at an MGLA meeting a while back where he did some incredible time lapse photography using a DSLR and an intervalometer. Not sure which model he used but if I recall it was about $180 from B&H

Be interesting to hear what you end up using and how it all turns out. I'm standing by :)

cheers

[...] The $548 million, seven-floor, 460,000-square-foot building (that will be the new hospital building at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles) used a giant crane to help build it. Vu and I were asked to photograph and video the disassembly of the crane. (see the time lapse video on Vu’s blog) [...]

Actually, Adam, we used a Sony VX2100 camcorder which has a built in time lapse feature. I had it capture 0.5 seconds of footage for every 30 seconds... it ended up shooting a little more than a minute per hour. Then we sped it up considerably to get the final 1:20 or so, made some music in Garage Band, and voila!

The next project will be shot with a DSLR and an intervalometer... and will be distributed in HD.

Look great guys.

How did you capture the TL footage? Did you shoot a butt load of video and speed it up, or did you use stills? If you used stills did you shoot them manually or with an intervalometer? Was it pretty easy to set up?

cheers

What a fascinating minute! It's comforting that people know what they're doing and do it well. I am also impressed with the smoglessness (for LA) of the day you recorded. Awesome!

Unfortunately (or fortunately, since it was sooooo hot!) we didn't get to wear the hardhats or harnesses... we were escorted up to the top of the adjacent building and that's the only access we had. It would have been great to get into the construction site... maybe next time!

Awesome. I want to an overnight time lapse out of my window, I'm on the 21st floor. I'm afraid it may only be cloud movement. But I want to do some interesting things with time lapse but I want it to be different and something unique if possible.
